Nirvana is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Aberdeen,
Washington by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic. The band had a huge
influence on the development of grunge music and became one of the
key alternative rock bands of the 1990s. Their music combined
elements of punk, rock, and pop music, and their lyrics often
touched on themes of alienation, depression, and social problems.
Nirvana's first album, *Bleach*, was released in 1989 on the
independent label Sub Pop and brought the band recognition in the
underground scene. However, real success came with the release of
*Nevermind* in 1991, which featured their biggest hit, **Smells Like
Teen Spirit**. The album changed the music industry and made Nirvana
one of the most popular bands of the time.
Despite their success, the band only lasted a few years. In 1994,
Kurt Cobain committed suicide, ending Nirvana's existence. However,
their legacy lives on, and their music continues to inspire millions
around the world.
